Words from Students

“Monica is such a fun and engaging teacher! I love how understanding and inclusive she is. Her class is a safe place for all that are present!”

- Student Evaluations

“Monica Wolfe did a phenomenal job of making me feel welcome, understood, and valued as her student. She helped me feel as if my work could serve a purpose and that my writing endeavors could become something more than just an assignment. She strived to keep us engaged, supported, and modeled for us that it is okay to be human. As a senior at Purdue, I have come into contact with a plethora of academics, I must say that Monica Wolfe is among one of the greatest that I have had the pleasure of learning from. Monica was encouraging, uplifting, and truly demonstrates what it is like to be a lifelong learner willing to grow alongside her students. I would hope that more people will have the opportunity to be blessed with the education and connection that occured between Monica Wolfe's phenomenal teaching and her students.”

- Student Evaluations

“This course is the most organized and put together course I've ever taken at Purdue, and that says a lot because I'm a senior. It was so well thought out, and my professor understood how to use Brightspace to its fullest potential, I am very happy with how this course was planned. It was definitely awesome and I'm sure she will do the same and succeed with many more courses.”

- Student Evaluations

“Professor Wolfe is a very kind, inspiring, encouraging, fun, and creative professor. I really love her personality and teaching style!”

- Student Evaluations

“Monica does really well in checking in on us as students, makes sure we are understanding any of the content we are covering and asks if there is anything she can help us with. She also creates a very welcoming environment for everyone in this course. I felt like all my thoughts and concerns were heard and didn't feel like just a student on a roster. Overall an outstanding instructor and would definitely take another course with Monica.”

- Student Evaluations

“I hope Monica continues to write the very helpful and kind feedback that they give on assignments. Also, I really enjoyed the textbook for this course, and I usually dread readings.”

- Student Evaluations

“I did not hesitate to ask any questions if I was confused. Whole class including the students made me feel welcome. I think the weekly discussions are interesting and not that difficult. It definitely makes you think and reading the writing from our peers and providing feedback is something I found helpful.”

- Student Evaluations

“I like how Ms. Monica is super chill and easy-going. It makes a daunting class like composition seem much more fun.”

- Student Evaluations

“Normally I am not one to answer questions and speak out loud but the small group class sessions made me feel more comfortable and open to sharing. I always felt comfortable asking for helping and suggestions on my work. All the assignments and powerpoints helped me when writing papers and creating projects.”

- Student Evaluations

“Thank you so much for being you this semester. Too often I’m put in classes with a professor that acts ‘too good’ or ‘too intelligent’ for his/her students, or a professor that ignores his/her students and their needs altogether. You showed us day after day that you were genuine, that you cared about us and that you really wanted us to learn and gain something from being with you. I actually enjoyed your class, I wanted to be there, and I wanted to learn. That’s rare in college, and I give you credit for making learning fun for me again. I didn’t write this small thank you for brownie-points or to kiss up to you. I really felt like you deserved a sincere thank you, to be acknowledged for how great you are. I have had some pretty rude professors – enough to push me to transfer schools – but you gave me an amazing memory. Thank you for that.”

- Post-Semester Note from Student

I have never clicked with English until I took this course.”

- post-semester note from student

"Professor Wolfe is honestly one of the best! She gives really good feedback, is super caring and helpful, and will clear your doubts as many times as you want. She also gives readings that are associated with the course content, which is actually pretty helpful to understand what to do."

My Students' Accomplishments

2021 - a student in my composition class worked with me to revise his research paper to submit to Purdue's Undergraduate Research Conference. His work was accepted, and he presented his work at a conference for the first time.

2019 - My Gender Studies class won 1st place in the Celebration of Student Writing competition, where they created an interactive installation exploring identity. Their work was inspired by Gloria Anzaldua, bell hooks, Lia Purpura, Audre Lorde, and many other powerful women writers. They unanimously chose to donate their prize money to a local women's health clinic.

2018 - 4 of my students had work written in my class published in Elevations: A Guide to First-Year Composition. I nominated their work, and their pieces were competitively selected for publication.

Some of my Gender Studies students pose with their remediated art installation, titled Identi-Tree, at the 2019 Celebration of Student Writing competition at University of New Mexico.
